Day Three - How Can This Be? Trusting God When The Outcome Is Unclear
Verses For The Day
Luke 1:33-35
“He will reign over Jacob’s descendants for ever; his kingdom will never end.”
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Introduction
Verse 34 says “And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
We as believers know and have heard the word of God being preached often. Therefore, we are familiar with several of God’s promises He has provided for us; e.g good health, forgiveness of sin and enablement to make wealth etc. Every believer faces moments when God speaks, leads, or calls them into something that feels impossible, unfamiliar or beyond logic.
Mary, a young woman from an ordinary town, receives an extraordinary promise: she will give birth to the Messiah. Her response captures a sincere, humble and human moment of wonder: How can this be?
When God gives us a promise or a word, it’s an invitation to trust Him even when we cannot see it and how it will unfold. This question forms the heart of our struggle, how to trust God when we cannot see how His promise could ever come to pass.
Purpose Statement
God’s promises can be trusted even when you’re not yet experiencing His promises or when the process is unclear.
3 Insights from Mary
1. Questions Are Welcome
Mary’s question, “How can this be?”, was a sincere question and not a sceptical one and God welcomes honest questions that come from a trusting heart. As children of God and having a relationship with Him, we can bring our questions to God. The how and the why does not weaken your faith, but when we ask those from a place of trust it deepens your faith.
Application: Bring your questions to God. Faith isn’t pretending to understand everything. It’s trusting God while asking the honest questions of your heart.
2. When God Tells You Before He Shows You
God often speaks a word or plants a vision long before He reveals how it will happen. Mary received a life changing promise before she received any explanation of the promise. From this story, I realised that the promise came first and the process came later, fulfilled in His timing.
Application: We can trust God when the details are not clear. Don’t dismiss a God-given promise because you can’t see the path just yet. He is calling you to take Him at His word (the number one reliable source He speaks; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
3. Your “Yes” Makes Room For God
Mary’s journey turns when she says, “Let it be to me according to Your Word.” She moves from question to surrender. From uncertainty to obedience. She offered full availability without gaining the full picture. Her obedience opened the door to the greatest miracle in history.
Application: Your "yes" to God positions you to see His promise unfold. With both feet, jump in and trust God with your "yes".
Conclusion
Mary’s story shows us that God speaks promises long before He shows the process. We may not understand how His promises unfold, but He welcomes our questions and whatever He says, our yes is what makes room for God to work the impossible in our lives.
Therefore, whatever God has spoken to your heart, whether it be good health, forgiveness of sins, business, marriage, work and or relationships, trust Him. Even when you can’t see the outcome, He said it… that means He will do it!
