Day 5 - Good Friday
GOOD FRIDAY INDEED!
Easter is a time of celebration and reflecting on how Jesus rose from the grave, defeating the enemy, setting humanity free and restoring relationship with God and man. As believers we can walk in true freedom, experience joy and have an everlasting relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. However, we can’t get to the resurrection and celebration of Easter Sunday without first going through the despair of the cross. Good Friday is a day and time to reflect on what Jesus did for us on the cross and why.
As many of us know, the story of Good Friday is that Jesus was rejected, stricken and afflicted by men in ways we can’t even begin to fathom. His hands were pierced as they hung Him on the cross with a crown of thorns on His head.
The Bible says “For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame”.
Firstly, I want us to imagine Jesus! Jesus, we know that He is the creator of heaven and earth! He has everything you and I can imagine plus more. The Bible says, “all things were made through Him, and nothing was made without Him”. He is not lacking anything!
Good Friday is called “good” because it marks the day Jesus, through His death, became the final and complete sacrifice for our sins, offering a path to salvation.
Jesus had everything! He endured the cross because the only thing He didn’t have was a relationship with you and I. It’s Good Friday because WE ARE the joy set before Him, and He did everything to have us.
Lastly, as Jesus hung on that cross, His final words were “IT IS FINISHED”. Everything was now finished (to fulfil the scripture, to forgive sins, to heal our bodies, to redeem us back to Him and more). He then bowed His head and GAVE up His spirit!
In the words of Phil Wickham… “Friday is Good because Sunday is coming! Don’t lose hope because Sunday is coming!”
